Well, here it is folks, the first official trailer for Universal’s “The Thing”. A prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 remake of “The Thing From Another World”, the film centers on a grad student traveling to a remote Antarctica research facility, where Swedish scientists have found an alien craft beneath the ice.
Already, the trailer has divided fans of Carpenter’s film, labeling it “a remake masquerading as a prequel”. Take a look for yourself! As a die-hard fan of Carpenter’s classic, I think this simply looks like the type of prequel that will give us one hell of a ride, and stay true to the story that will inevitably connect to the beginning of Carpenter’s film seamlessly. Even the set designs look eerily similar to the tight corridors of Carpenter’s film.
I’m elated that this isn’t a remake, and think this trailer (which wisely shows very little of the monster, and lots of horrified reactions) is a window into what I’m already calling my most anticipated film of the fall.
